I tuned in to Rosie O'Donnell's radio show this morning and caught an interview she was doing with a young woman named Katie Spotz. Katie is a 22 yr. old from Ohio who is currently in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, ALONE, rowing from Africa to South America to raise money and awareness for The Blue Planet Run Foundation. The non-profit San Francisco based foundation's goal is to fund safe drinking water projects for the billion people around the world in need.
Katie's story is quite impressive and you can follow her amazing journey on www.rowforwater.com and also keep up with her on Twitter. She is currently on track to arrive in Cayenne in mid-March.
I personally vacillate back and forth when I hear about people undertaking huge adventures like this between, "Are they nuts?" to "I'd love to do something like that!" I really don't think I have the courage to do something so physically challenging, but I would like to tackle something that feels like an adventure. So far all I've come up with is a trip to Machu Picchu in a few years where I plan to do a fire walk....it's a start, LOL.
Anyway, in honor of Katie's quest, I had to choose "The Boat That I Row" which was a big hit for Lulu in 1967. Neil Diamond actually wrote the song and also recorded it..here's Neil's version :)
Godspeed, Katie...my family and I will be cheering you on!
