Do you remember the first record that you played over and over from your childhood?
Well, mine was "Band of Gold" by Freda Payne...courtesy of my uncles' 45 record collection. We used to live with my maternal grandparents off and on during my childhood, and while my uncles were still living there, my sister and I used to sneak into their rooms and play their records. I remember listening to this song over and over to get the words down, probably much to the dismay of everyone else in the house, lol.
I had a real full circle moment when I discovered my daughter doing the same thing a couple of years ago when she became obsessed with the song, "Hey, Mickey" by Toni Basil.
It just dawned on me that these are both female one-hit-wonders! ("Mickey" was #1 on the Billboard charts for one week in 1982, while "Band of Gold" reached #3 in the US and became #1 on the UK singles chart, remaining there for six weeks in September of 1970).
